MoveOn is proud to endorse Bob Brooks for Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District!
Leadership and Experience
Bob Brooks has spent his entire life fighting for working families. Raised primarily by a single mom who worked as a bartender, Bob worked a wide array of blue-collar jobs—including dishwasher, short-order cook, bartender, landscaper, warehouse worker, and pizza delivery driver—before spending 20 years as a firefighter for the City of Bethlehem. He held nearly every position on the fire truck and every post in his union, eventually serving as the union President of the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association. In Harrisburg, Bob successfully took on politicians to secure higher wages, better healthcare, and mental health coverage for first responders.
In addition to his service in uniform, Bob has run a small family-operated lawn care and snow removal business since 2013 and spent over two decades coaching youth and varsity baseball at Nazareth Area High School. After retiring from the fire department, Bob decided to run for Congress to stand up against career politicians who favor billionaires while regular working families struggle under the rising cost of living.
How he’ll help your community:
-
Dignity for All Workers: A lifelong champion for labor and former Teamster, Bob will fight to make it easier to join a union by passing the PRO Act, increase the minimum wage, and protect the collective bargaining rights of workers and first responders.
-
Strengthening Public Safety and Infrastructure: Drawing on his decades of experience in public safety, Bob will work to ensure that local firehouses, EMTs, and police departments have the advanced training, equipment, and resources they need to keep communities secure.
-
Supporting Students and Vocational Training: Bob will push to bring down college tuition costs and expand financial aid. Recognizing that trades build the middle class, he will heavily fund vocational programs, apprenticeships, and job training in manufacturing, construction, and clean energy.
-
Expanding Child Care and Early Education: To relieve the burden on working-class families, Bob supports expanding child care subsidies, restoring and expanding funding to Head Start, and providing universal kindergarten and pre-K.
His position on key issues
-
Accessible and Affordable Healthcare: Bob is focused on fixing a system where people skip prescriptions due to cost. He will go to bat to lower drug prices for essentials like insulin, expand coverage, and stand up to insurance and pharmaceutical companies to keep local clinics open.
-
Defending Reproductive Freedom: Bob firmly believes the government has no business making personal health decisions. He will fight to codify reproductive rights into the Constitution and pass legislation to protect full healthcare access for everyone.
-
Protecting Social Security and Medicare: Bob vows to fiercely defend crucial safety-net programs for seniors. He supports the Medicare and Social Security Fair Share Act to remove the cap on Social Security payroll taxes for the wealthiest Americans.
-
Ending Corporate Influence and Political Corruption: Bob is running to take on the billionaires and big corporations rigging the political system. He strongly supports common-sense anti-corruption laws, including strict bans on members of Congress trading stocks while writing the rules.
