October 19 conversation between Hill and Dr. El-Sayed will be live recording for Hill’s podcast
DETROIT — MoveOn Political Action, one of the leading progressive political organizations in the country, and Detroit Action announced that on October 19, 2026, they will host a conversation between Dr. Abdul El-Sayed and journalist Jemele Hill in Detroit. The event will be structured as a recording of Hill’s Spolitics podcast and will focus on the challenges and opportunities for Black Michiganders under the current economy and El-Sayed’s experience with tackling those issues.
The event will be one of the final opportunities for Black Michiganders to hear directly from El-Sayed about his experience as a former public health official and his take on the policy solutions needed to fix the economic disaster created by the Trump administration.
As a Detroit native and household name, Jemele Hill is uniquely positioned to ask El-Sayed tough questions about the work ahead to fix our economy and the policy solutions that will help lower Michigan families’ gas, grocery, and healthcare bills.
“The Trump administration has created an economic disaster in this country, and it’s hit Black and brown communities the hardest. We’re eager for them to learn about Dr. El-Sayed’s story, love for the state, and exceptional public health experience,” said Joel Payne, MoveOn Political Action’s chief communications officer. “There is no better journalist and commentator to dive in on these issues than Detroit’s own Jemele Hill.”
“It’s important that Black Detroiters get an opportunity to engage with Dr. El-Sayed,” said Jemele Hill, a journalist and host of the Spolitics podcast. “There has been so much misinformation spread about Dr. El-Sayed and people being able to hear directly from him will be significant in helping them make an informed decision about who is best served to lead them.”
“This conversation with Dr. Abdul El-Sayed and Jemele Hill is an opportunity to create space for Detroiters, who are too often forgotten once the political grandstanding ends, to listen, ask questions, and hear directly about his plans. We’re seeking specifics on implementation, accountability, and measurable outcomes because our communities deserve more than promises,” said Scott Holiday, executive director of Detroit Action. “They deserve a meaningful voice in shaping the policies that impact their lives and a clear understanding of how those policies will deliver results.”
This event will be open to press by invitation and registration, with details to come through a separate announcement. Press interested in being invited and attending should request credentials here.
