MoveOn’s 2026 Election Program Recap

As the polls start closing on the East Coast, thank you to everyone who voted, reminded their friends, sent a postcard, made a phone call, attended an event, supported members behind the scenes (we see you Community Support Team!), protested, volunteered as a poll worker, or participated in this election in any way.

Together, our people power is stronger than the people in power. No matter what happens tonight, we’re proud to be in this movement together, working toward a country that works for everyone, not just the ultra-wealthy and corporations.

Here’s a snapshot of a few of the ways MoveOn members impacted some of the most important races in the 2026 elections.

This Election Cycle, MoveOn…

  • Made over 2 million voter contacts focused on MoveOn members who skipped the 2024 election.
  • Endorsed 63 progressive fighters for Senate and House to build a strong coalition for our issue priorities including lower prices, stopping illegal wars, and reining in ICE.
  • Used trusted voices to engage hard-to-reach audiences, achieving 13,000,000 views on videos from local content creators promoting MoveOn candidates and events.
  • Made sure voters in key races got important information to help them make decisions about their votes—via phone calls, digital ads, and mail—reaching 1.8 million+ voters.
  • Trained and supported hundreds of volunteers, who collectively spent over 20,000 volunteer hours reaching voters, supporting members, and building the infrastructure we need for year-round advocacy.
  • Hosted a conversation between Dr. Abdul El-Sayed and Jemele Hill, a prominent sports journalist and Detroit native, to connect the Black community with his platform, in partnership with Detroit Action. The event engaged dozens of community leaders and reached more than 40,000 people through Hill’s Spolitics podcast and garnered 5 million views across social media.
  • We launched an innovative “creator house” project, hosting social media influencers in one home over several days to generate 115 pieces of content in Michigan across the combined socials of MoveOn, creators, and strategic partners across 5 days, resulting in 10.5 million views to concentrate attention on the most important races this cycle.
  • Sent early voting email reminders to nearly 3.5 million MoveOn members and 10 tailored reminders with social pressure messaging to nearly 500k members in battleground races.
  • Secured early vote commitments from ~40% of voters that we contacted via our volunteer phone banks in order to protect our democracy and show an overwhelming force of Democratic turnout as soon as possible.

The Strategy

For over 25 years, MoveOn has built independent political power at scale, and 2026 was no different. This long history gave us a lot of data to analyze previous wins and losses. With that data, we are able to hone in on a very specific target audience to turn out who could make the margin of victory in close races from coast to coast: existing MoveOn members who voted in 2020, but skipped 2024.

These voters have been organizing with MoveOn for years. They signed issue petitions, mainly around economic hardships, and expressed frustration at both parties for failing to improve their lives. Over time, these MoveOn members stayed within MoveOn for their political action, and our program was designed to remind and persuade these voters that their vote has power, and our endorsed Democratic candidates will fight for all of us over billionaires.

Mobilize the Base. Turn Action into Power. Build the Future.

Mobilize the Base

MoveOn is made up of millions of people all over the country who are willing to disrupt our lives in order to advocate for a better world, show up for our neighbors, and protect our rights. That’s the power of MoveOn. The first pillar of our election work is investing in our members, growing our base in key geographies, and making sure everyone has the skills needed to reach out to voters in their area.

This included developing cohorts in seven congressional districts to deepen the leadership bench and create stronger relationships in the community through year-round organizing. In 2026, the cohorts hosted more than 2 dozen events in support of our endorsed candidates.

MoveOn members played a leading role in No Kings in October by hosting events and supporting volunteers across the country, and captured national attention. Afterward, MoveOn continued the focus on early voting by encouraging all members to utilize mail-in and early voting options, and triple their impact by asking 3 friends and family to vote early with them.

Turn Action into Power

The secret sauce of MoveOn’s election program this year was members talking with fellow members. This allowed us to reach scale on the phones, in mailboxes, and in text messages. Our average contact rate for phone calls was 5.6%, almost double industry average, because we already have a relationship with these voters.

Through the Adopt a District program, members in the most contested congressional districts, and those outside, could claim a list of 25 fellow members, and remind them to vote by either sending them a postcard or knocking on their door, and then following up with a text and a phone call. 1,548 people signed up for lists, and an estimated 8,465 contacts were made before Election Day.

Research has shown that voters need to hear a message at least three times in order for it to sink in, so we made sure to use multiple communication channels so that voting reminders were heard in surround sound. In addition to outreach from fellow members, MoveOn produced four digital ads seen over 250,000 across critical geographies using message tested language and social pressure to inspire members to vote. We also partnered with celebrities on early voting promotions that generated nearly 3M views.

In the closest races in the country, MoveOn members showed up in person too with marquee events for Will Lawrence (MI-07), Bob Brooks (PA-07), and a Halloween GOTV Block Party for Dr. Abdul El-Sayed in Detroit with over 400 participants.

Build the Future

Our work is not done. We’re on high alert for any attacks on our voting rights, or failure to certify the votes and seat our newly elected progressives in November. Trump has threatened mail-in ballots, the Justice Department is making up reasons to disqualify eligible voters, and MAGA officials continue to signal they’ll keep challenging the results at every point they can.

While we stay vigilant, we’re also making plans. Big plans. With a new crop of young progressive champions looking to change the status quo, MoveOn members are ready to have their back and push for transformative change. We can’t go back to things as normal, with corporations gobbling up resources while our communities get pennies. We need to build something new together that lowers costs, protects all of our rights, and holds people accountable for the years of corruption and abuses of power that have plagued our government. We’re also looking ahead to 2028, and the ways MoveOn members can make their voices heard on who the next leader of the Democratic Party should be.

We’re so proud of the work we’ve done together, and excited for everything to come.

Thanks for all you do.
