Washington, D.C. – Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that twice-impeached and criminally indicted Donald Trump cannot be disqualified from the 2024 ballot for inciting an insurrection, MoveOn Political Action Executive Director Rahna Epting released the following statement:
“Despite what the MAGA-led Supreme Court says, Donald Trump, and the MAGA Republicans in Congress who enable him, are a clear and present danger to our democracy. We can’t lose sight of the fact that on January 6, Trump and his cronies incited an insurrection to overturn a free and fair election against the will of the people. Trump and MAGA extremists must face the consequences of undermining our freedoms and betraying our country. The Supreme Court won’t hold the GOP accountable for putting politics over people, but MoveOn and its members will this fall at the ballot.”
MoveOn and its members have been on the frontlines calling for Trump’s disqualification for inciting an insurrection. Now, over 8,000 members have signed up for a rapid-response mobilization call to learn how to take action to defeat Trump at the ballot. Earlier this month, MoveOn activists held an action on the Supreme Court steps projecting the “Disqualify Trump” demand and commissioned a mobile billboard circulating throughout the District as part of a grassroots push to pressure Justice Clarence Thomas to recuse himself from the case.
Over half a million MoveOn members have signed onto a petition calling to disqualify Trump from holding public office, under the Constitution’s 14th Amendment.
