Leadership and Experience

With over three decades of military and public service, Leela Gray has dedicated her life to serving her country and standing up for working families. A retired U.S. Army Brigadier General, third-generation veteran, and small business leader, Leela rose through the ranks while serving 30 years in uniform—including two combat deployments and a peacekeeping mission. Alongside her military service, she worked in startup technology and communications, served as a strategic advisor to U.S. Army Cyber Command, and collaborated with the State Department on counter-propaganda initiatives.

Growing up in a working-class family that relied on food stamps during lean times, Leela worked jobs at McDonald’s and as a waitress to put herself through college before eventually earning her law degree to advocate for veterans’ healthcare and benefits. In her local community, she has mentored startup founders and launched initiatives to help returning service members transition into good-paying civilian jobs. She is running for Congress to bring her hands-on leadership, fiscal discipline, and commitment to public integrity to Washington on behalf of Pinellas County families.

How she’ll help your community:

• Tackling the Cost of Living & Housing: Leela will take on corporate price gouging, insurance monopolies, and skyrocketing property insurance costs to expand affordable housing and lower daily expenses for working families.

• Support for Veterans & Seniors: A veteran and legal advocate, Leela will cut red tape at the VA to ensure world-class, timely healthcare for service members while safeguarding Social Security and Medicare so seniors can age with dignity.

• Protecting Beaches & Coastal Economies: Recognizing Florida’s vulnerability to extreme storms, Leela will champion clean energy, coastal resiliency, and environmental protections to preserve local ecosystems and safeguard coastal businesses.

• Restoring Integrity & Government Accountability: Leela will push to ban insider stock trading for members of Congress, enact lifetime lobbying bans for former representatives, and strip dark money out of politics.
