about Joe Neguse

MoveOn is proud to endorse Rep. Joe Neguse for reelection in Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District!

Leadership and Experience

The first African American elected to Congress in Colorado’s history, Joe Neguse has dedicated his career to expanding economic opportunities, protecting consumer rights, and defending democratic institutions. Recognized by the Center for Effective Lawmaking as one of the most effective Democratic lawmakers in the entire U.S. House, Joe has built a reputation for delivering real results and enacting more laws than any other member of his state’s delegation.

Before his election to Congress, Joe co-founded Colorado’s largest youth voter registration non-profit and was elected to the University of Colorado Board of Regents, where he fought to make higher education accessible and worked to increase wages for the university’s lowest-paid workers. At age 31, he was appointed to lead Colorado’s consumer protection agency as a state Cabinet member, recovering millions of dollars for consumers and championing critical legislation to combat financial fraud against seniors.

How he’ll help your community:

  • Preserving Public Lands & Environment: As a leading voice on the Climate Crisis committee and the lead Democrat on the Subcommittee for Federal Lands, Joe is a fierce protector of natural spaces. He consistently fights back against proposals to sell off public lands and leads the opposition against cuts to vital environmental research labs.

  • Accountability & Anti-Corruption: Joe is at the forefront of tackling political corruption in Washington. He has spearheaded legislative efforts to bring transparency to governance, including introducing a lifetime ban to prevent former members of Congress from working as corporate lobbyists.

  • Defending Our Democracy: Committed to safeguarding constitutional values, Joe served as a House prosecutor during the historic second impeachment trial of Donald Trump following the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. He continues to run point on constitutional protections and fighting political corruption.

  • Supporting Local Economies: Joe has held more than 100 town halls—more than all other members of Colorado’s congressional delegation combined. He channels local feedback into federal action, successfully securing critical funding for wildfire survivors, forest health, and vital transportation projects in mountain and rural communities.

His position on key issues

  • Honoring the American Dream: As the son of refugees who fled war-torn Eritrea, Joe views public service as a way to give back to the country that welcomed his family. He advocates for policies that expand, rather than restrict, paths to opportunity for immigrant and working-class families.

  • Gun Safety Reform: Endorsed by leading gun safety advocates like Gabby Giffords, Joe is committed to passing bold, common-sense gun safety policies to protect kids, schools, and local communities from the epidemic of gun violence.

  • Consumer Protection: Drawing from his experience leading Colorado’s consumer protection agency, Joe fights to strengthen corporate antitrust laws, protect everyday citizens from predatory financial fraud, and ensure robust digital civil rights safeguards.

  • Economic Equity: Joe is focused on supporting small businesses, investing in rural and public schools, and ensuring that working families and lower-wage employees have the resources they need to thrive in a fair economy.
