MoveOn is proud to endorse Cori Bush for Missouri’s 1st Congressional District!
Leadership and Experience
With a career forged on the frontlines of community care and civil rights activism, Cori Bush has dedicated her life to fighting for regular people. Raised in St. Louis, Cori worked for years as a registered nurse, a pastor, and a mental health coordinator. When the Ferguson uprisings erupted in 2014 following the police killing of Michael Brown, Cori ran toward the crisis. She spent over 400 days on the streets providing trauma care, food, and medical assistance, becoming a foundational leader in the national movement for Black Lives.
Driven by the realization that systemic change requires a pen in the hands of everyday citizens, Cori brought her activist energy to politics. In 2020, she made history as the first Black woman and first nurse elected to represent Missouri in Congress. During her time in office, she established a reputation as a fierce, unyielding “people’s champion,” famously leading a multi-day sleep-in on the U.S. Capitol steps that pressured the administration to extend the federal eviction moratorium, saving millions of families from losing their homes. She is running to return to Congress to continue building an independent, grassroots movement that takes on corporate greed and delivers real results for St. Louis.
How she’ll help your community:

-
Dignity for Working Families: A lifelong advocate for labor and a former minimum-wage worker, Cori will continue to push for a federal living wage, protect workers’ rights to organize, and expand essential social safety nets like SNAP, WIC, and Social Security.
