MoveOn is proud to endorse Jamie Ager for North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District!
Leadership and Experience
As a fourth-generation Western North Carolina farmer, local business owner, and community advocate, Jamie Ager has spent his life rooted in the land and people of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Born and raised in Fairview, Jamie learned early on that strong communities are built through hard work, stewardship, and looking out for your neighbors. Alongside his wife, Amy, Jamie co-founded Hickory Nut Gap Farm’s meat brand, growing a local sustainable agriculture business that supports dozens of regional family farms, creates good local jobs, and promotes soil health and regenerative farming across the Southeast.
Jamie’s deep commitment to public service is guided by a practical, grassroots belief: Washington needs leaders who put working people, family farms, and small towns ahead of corporate monopolies and political posturing. Having seen firsthand how Western North Carolina communities are too often overlooked by Washington politicians, Jamie is running for Congress to deliver real results. He lives in Buncombe County with his wife Amy and their three children. In the U.S. House, he will be a fierce, independent voice fighting to lower everyday costs, rebuild rural infrastructure, and ensure WNC gets the resources and respect it deserves.
How he’ll help your community:
- Delivering Full Hurricane Helene Recovery Funds: As WNC continues rebuilding after Hurricane Helene, Jamie will cut red tape and fight tirelessly to ensure federal recovery dollars go directly to local families, small businesses, and damaged municipal infrastructure—holding Washington accountable to the promises made to mountain communities.
- Lowering Healthcare and Prescription Costs: Jamie believes no family should face bankruptcy over medical bills. He will defend Medicare’s power to negotiate prescription drug prices, protect caps on insulin, expand rural clinics and mobile care units across NC-11, and advocate for a public option so everyone has access to affordable healthcare.
- Supporting Family Farmers and Local Economies: Jamie knows how corporate consolidation in agriculture and utilities hurts local producers and consumers. He will fight for small farmers by advancing “Right to Repair” legislation, standing up against meatpacking monopolies, and creating new market opportunities for independent regional businesses.
- Protecting Veterans and Rural Emergency Services: Jamie will safeguard VA healthcare facilities from cuts and closures across the district, expand mobile health units for rural veterans, and secure federal support for local fire stations and rural first responders.
His position on key issues
- Banning Congressional Stock Trading & Dark Money: To restore trust in government, Jamie supports banning members of Congress from trading individual stocks and passing comprehensive campaign finance reform to shine a light on dark money in politics.
- Taking On Corporate Monopolies: From agribusiness giants to power companies, Jamie supports strict oversight to prevent corporate monopolies from driving up prices on essential goods and squeezing out independent small businesses.
- Expanding Mental Health and Rural Care: Jamie will advocate for increased investment in rural mental health resources, early intervention programs, and expanding Medicare coverage to include vision, dental, and home-based care so seniors can age with dignity.
- Investing in Rural Broadband and Infrastructure: Jamie will push to expand high-speed rural broadband and cellular coverage across mountain towns, giving local farms, students, and small business owners a fair shot in today’s digital economy.
