NEW YORK – In response to Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani securing the Democratic nomination for New York City mayor, MoveOn Political Action Political Director Mohammad Khan released the following statement:
“Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani is the exact type of candidate the Democratic Party should be running if they want to welcome back working-class voters. As the cost of living soars, working people across New York City now have a real chance to have a mayor who will fight to make the city more affordable. MoveOn members endorsed Assemblymember Mamdani to bring down the rent, create affordable and dependable public transit, and make it easier to raise a family in New York City.”
New York City MoveOn members joined in on GOTV efforts to support both Mamdani and Comptroller Brad Lander and donated to New Yorkers for Lower Costs, a Mamdani-aligned, anti-Cuomo PAC. MoveOn has a track record of endorsing emerging progressive leaders, as seen by our 2018 endorsement of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in her primary for NY-14. MoveOn also endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders in the 2016 presidential primary.
