VICTORY: Attacks on Workers’ Rights Stopped in San Jose

San Jose

When three of his fellow San Jose council members and the mayor proposed a bill to strip city workers of their benefits and take away their collective bargaining rights, progressive Council Member Ash Kalra refused to let his city become the next Wisconsin. Ash started a MoveOn Petition to the San Jose mayor and City Council, demanding that San Jose workers retain their rights. More than 4,000 people, most in San Jose, signed the petition, and under intense pressure the mayor and council leader delayed the vote on the bill twice before dropping the attacks on collective bargaining for the rest of the session—a huge win for workers’ rights.
