Trump’s illegal weaponization of the government must be fought in the courts, in Congress, and in the streets

Washington, D.C. — In response to the ongoing news of the Trump administration’s raid and investigations into Representative Ilhan Omar, Joel Payne, MoveOn’s Chief Communications Officer, released the following statement: 

“Donald Trump’s obsession with attacking Representative Omar is a clear attempt to rile up racists and Islamophobes who may want to harm her, and a fundamental distraction from his sky-high gas prices and healthcare crisis.

“Not content with attacking Somali Americans in Minnesota throughout the year, the administration’s latest raid on Omar’s home and subpoenas of her family members are an illegal weaponization of the government that must be fought in the courts, in Congress, and in the streets. Fighting this corruption requires all of our leaders to meet the moment and unite lawmakers against this unlawful investigation. Will Michele Tafoya stand up for the rule of law and a fellow citizen, or embrace Trump’s hate and authoritarian power grabs?”
