Democrats flip both chambers of Congress by focusing on putting working people over billionaires, lowering costs, and reforming healthcare 

WASHINGTON — Following the news that Democrats have reclaimed the majority in the Senate and House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections, MoveOn Political Action’s Executive Director Joel Payne, released the following statement:

“We did it! Americans refused to be intimidated by Trump’s threats and Congress is back in the hands of those who will govern for the people. 

This massive victory makes clear that voters are hungry for a new chapter for our politics in our nation. These results couldn’t have happened without MoveOn members who mobilized their communities en masse and helped get Democrats over the finish line. 

But the fight doesn’t end here. Every election must be certified and every winner must be seated. And when that happens, Democrats cannot squander another majority. 

This new generation of leaders must get to work immediately on lowering healthcare costs, ending the illegal war in Iran, stopping ICE’s reign of terror, holding Big Tech accountable, and investigating this administration’s record levels of corruption. This new moment calls for more than just tinkering around the edges. Democrats must deliver for Americans—and anyone not on board should get out of the way.” 

To help get Democrats over the finish line, MoveOn invested more than $26 million to reach and engage voters who skipped the 2024 election and were key to these results. With the help of its volunteer base of members in all 435 congressional districts, MoveOn made direct outreach to 2 million of these skippers via phone banks and canvassing, as well as running digital ad and creator programs to build back trust with these disaffected voters. 

Our members backed a wave of bold, populist candidates this cycle, making primary election endorsements of progressive fighters who will not settle for the status quo.
