Washington, D.C. – In response to conspiracy theorist Robert Kennedy Jr.’s announcement that Nicole Shanahan will serve as his vice presidential running mate in his dangerous, spoiler, third-party presidential bid, MoveOn Political Action Executive Director Rahna Epting released the following statement:
“Let’s be 100% clear: Robert Kennedy Jr. will not be president. He has no path to the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win. And adding Nicole Shanahan to the ticket doesn’t change that equation.
“All Kennedy and Shanahan can do is be spoilers and help hand the keys to the White House back to Donald Trump. So the person most excited by Kennedy’s announcement is probably Donald Trump, followed by their shared donors. It is probably for this reason that the people who know him best – his own family, who are no strangers to politics – are against his run and are supporting President Biden.
“MoveOn has no issue with third parties. Choices in politics are good. Spoilers who throw the election to people who want to turn back the clock on generations of progress in this nation are not.
“MoveOn remains committed to ensuring voters aren’t duped by futile third-party campaigns like Kennedy’s and to preventing a day-one dictator from returning to the Oval Office.”
