MoveOn Statement on MAGA Supreme Court Protecting Trump Once Again

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Trump-appointed MAGA Supreme Court punted the twice-impeached and criminally indicted former President Donald Trump’s immunity trial down to the lower courts, becoming complicit in Trump’s plan to delay any legal accountability until after the election.

MoveOn Political Action Executive Director Rahna Epting said: “Donald Trump incited the deadly January 6 insurrection, and the MAGA Supreme Court continues to do everything in their power to stop him from facing accountability for attempting to overthrow our government. Nobody is above the law, especially not Trump. MAGA extremists in Congress and the courts have made it clear there will be no checks or balances for Trump, and the only hope for American democracy is the people coming together to defeat him in November.”

The case in front of the conservative majority Supreme Court was based on the former president’s absurd legal argument that anyone who’s been president has “absolute immunity” from prosecution for any crimes they commit. More than 100,000 people have signed MoveOn’s petition calling on the Supreme Court to rule against his appeal. Three in five Americans want a verdict before Election Day in Trump’s election subversion trial. By punting this ruling, the MAGA justices are paving the way for Trump to seize power and do whatever he wants, putting the rest of us in danger.
