Join NowWashington, D.C. – Following reports that Democrat Tom Suozzi has won the special election to fill the seat of disgraced, corrupt George Santos in New York’s 3rd District, MoveOn Political Action Executive Director Rahna Epting released the following statement:
“Our Long Island and Queens members were motivated to head to the polls to ensure the Trump-loving, anti-abortion extremist Mazi Melesa Pilip had no claim on their district. This is a massive victory for residents of New York’s 3rd District, who are finally free from the reign of MAGA and the legacy of a lying lawmaker cheating the system to pad his own pockets and his closet. We look forward to holding this seat and flipping a host of other New York House districts back to blue this fall to show MAGA the door.”
As reported by The New York Times, MoveOn has launched a $32 million political program to beat back MAGA, win back the House, secure another Democratic trifecta, and protect democracy. Since George Santos was sworn in, MoveOn and its Queens and Long Island members have been calling for new representation and for him to resign or be expelled. In the weeks leading up to the special election to fill his former seat, MoveOn mobilized its members and voters in the district to vote MAGA out, through phone backs and targeted digital ads. Leading up to his ouster, more than 154,000 members signed a petition for Santos to step aside over his rampant lies and corruption. And in December, MoveOn flew a 15-foot inflatable of the disgraced former rep outside the Capitol during a rally demanding that Congress expel him.
