Washington, D.C. – As reported by NBC News, MoveOn pulled back plans to endorse Representative Adam Gray for reelection following his vote for the National Defense Authorization Act, which included the anti-voter SAVE America Act.
Rep. Gray was one of only six House Democrats to support the package, which passed the House by a 216–212 vote on Wednesday.
“Despite the previous stated intention to include Mr. Gray in our slate of July 29 endorsements, the congressman’s vote earlier this week in support of the NDAA, which included the anti-democratic and anti-voter SAVE Act, has forced our reconsideration of endorsing Mr. Gray’s candidacy for reelection,” MoveOn Political Director Mohammad Khan wrote in a letter to Gray’s campaign manager.
In the letter, Khan also said the NDAA amounts to supporting billions more for Donald Trump’s illegal and dangerous war on Iran and called the SAVE America Act the most sweeping voter suppression bill in modern history.
In 2024, the group endorsed Gray before he was first elected in a competitive swing district. MoveOn had planned to include him in its upcoming slate of endorsements, but an overwhelming majority—more than 66%—of its members in California’s 13th Congressional District voted to rescind their endorsement after a reassessment following the NDAA vote.
The decision reflects the serious concerns raised by Gray’s vote among the grassroots members whose support helped send him to Congress.
