MoveOn: No Labels’ “Shameful” Decision to Move Forward With Reckless Third-Party Bid Puts Democracy and Our Freedoms at Risk

Dark-money, Trump donor-funded No Labels Commits to Run Third-Party Presidential Ticket That Would Help Donald Trump Win a Second White House Term This November

Washington, D.C.In response to news that No Labels has officially decided to move forward with a reckless third-party presidential ticket that will help Donald Trump get reelected, MoveOn Political Action Executive Director Rahna Epting released the following statement:

“The consequences of the next presidential election could not be more serious or more existential, and, despite this, No Labels has put their dangerous, reckless thought experiment ahead of the rights and freedoms of millions of Americans and the future of our democracy. Their decision to move forward with a dark-money, Trump donor-funded third-party fantasy bid is shameful and puts millions of Americans at risk.

“Their own founder said they are ‘not in it to win it,’ and several current and past supporters of No Labels have implored them to stand down. And yet, they have decided to pump millions of dollars of dark money into a run that would swing the election to Donald Trump.

“Any candidates who join the No Labels presidential ticket will be complicit in making it easier for Donald Trump and MAGA extremists to win a second term in the White House.”

Since writing an op-ed in The Washington Post last spring, MoveOn has been campaigning against the dangers of No Labels in concert with Third Way. Epting appeared on NPR’s “Open to Debate” against No Labels’ Ryan Clancy and spoke recently with USA Today and The New York Times on the dangers of third parties this fall. Additionally, MoveOn launched ExposeNoLabels.com, called on secretaries of state to monitor No Labels’ ballot access activities after voters in Maine were misled into changing their party affiliation status, and organized more than 85,000 people to sign a petition calling for No Labels to step aside.
