MoveOn: Manchin Joins Growing List of Candidates Rejecting No Labels

Manchin: “I am not going to be a … spoiler, whatever you want to call it. I just don’t think it’s the right time.”

Washington, D.C.In response to news that Senator Joe Manchin will not run as a spoiler ticket for president on the No Labels ballot line, MoveOn Political Action Chief Communications Officer Joel Payne released the following statement:

“Joe Manchin is the latest politician to say no thanks to No Labels. He knows what is painfully clear to anyone paying attention: No Labels has no path and no math to 270 votes, and they only serve to help Donald Trump win this November. Now it’s time for No Labels and their dark-money backers to follow suit and stand down from their reckless and dangerous effort that will swing the election to Trump.”

Here’s a list of some of the other rumored No Labels candidates who were quick to reject No Labels’ third-party fantasy:

  • Former Governor Larry Hogan stepped down from the organization and last week announced his Senate run.
  • Nikki Haley’s spokesperson said she has “no interest in No Labels.”
  • No Labels pulled Democratic Governor Andy Beshear’s name out of thin air, and his former campaign manager quickly put an end to the rumors.
  • Chris Christie called No Labels’ fantasy a “fool’s errand.”
