MoveOn Political Action today announced the launch of its “America for All” 2020 election program to mobilize millions of members to defeat Donald Trump, end Republican control of the Senate, and help Democrats hold the majority in the House of Representatives.
Millions of MoveOn members, who live in each of the country’s 3,000+ counties, will volunteer and donate to candidates, contact voters in key battleground states, drive creative and cultural interventions that inspire voter turnout, and work to protect the right to vote for those targeted by digital voter suppression online. The combined election effort is expected to cost $20 million.
MoveOn is prioritizing the presidential and Senate battleground states of Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. MoveOn members will also mobilize to support dozens of House candidates, including in primaries. (MoveOn members have already voted to endorse challengers Marie Newman and Jessica Cisneros in IL-03 and TX-28.)
“Donald Trump continues to abuse his power and obstruct Congress. He remains a clear and present danger to our democracy and our country. Republican Senators failed to do their jobs, so it’s on us—we, the people—to do ours this November,” said MoveOn Political Action executive director Rahna Epting. “We will hold Senate Republicans accountable for choosing party over constituents and Constitution, and end the chaos, bigotry, lawlessness, and cruelty spewing from the White House. We are working to ensure a progressive nominee emerges from the Democratic primaries, and, whoever the nominee is, we are committed to wholeheartedly supporting them in the general election.”
MoveOn’s campaign has three core strategies:
“There is an expansive field of candidates in the Democratic primary, and we are committed to unifying in the general election to do all we can to defeat Trump and win the White House, win the Senate, and keep the House in November. Millions of MoveOn members will engage in this election because they believe a better way of governing is possible and necessary,” Epting said. “Our members will play a crucial role in building another blue wave and electing a progressive governing majority to create an America that works for all of us.”
In 2018, MoveOn helped power a Blue Wave that resulted in the highest midterm turnout in a century and elected the most diverse Democratically controlled U.S. House of Representatives in history. Over the past year, it has engaged in the primary process through interventions designed to support candidates in offering bold, progressive ideas, including with the Big Ideas Forum, MoveOn’s first-ever in-personal presidential candidate forum, which eight candidates attended in June.
