A new MoveOn petition, on track to be MoveOn’s fastest growing of the year, is calling on ABC and Disney to immediately reinstate late-night host Jimmy Kimmel after his suspension, which came following pressure from the Trump administration and MAGA Republicans. Petition organizers say the move is a dangerous escalation of authoritarian censorship in the U.S.

The petition also calls for ABC and Disney to commit to standing up against government censorship and demonstrate to its audiences that they value free speech over political pressure.
“Whether you are a celebrity like Jimmy Kimmel or a local community activist, this administration is determined to silence anyone who disagrees with them and their extreme political agenda. Trump and Republicans know that the only way they can win and make the rich even richer is if they intimidate their opponents. Censoring Colbert and Kimmel accelerates the dangerous slide into authoritarianism and is a direct attack on our freedom of speech. MoveOn members will not be scared into submission or silenced into inaction,” said Britt Jacovich, spokesperson for MoveOn Civic Action.
Advocates warn this is part of a broader pattern: the recent firing of Stephen Colbert from CBS and Paramount Global, cuts to public television, and attacks on NPR all point to a coordinated effort to strip away access to a diversity of news and information sources so that Trump can control the narrative.
