about Lindsay James

MoveOn is proud to endorse Lindsay James for Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District!

Leadership and Experience

Guided by her faith and a deep commitment to moral responsibility, Lindsay James has spent her career advocating for working families, marginalized communities, and social justice. Her public service journey began as a chaplain, sitting alongside people in their hardest hours to offer hope and find common ground. As an assistant professor and community leader, Lindsay translated her values into action, fighting for systemic change to ensure every person is treated with equal dignity and worth.

As an Iowa State Representative and Minority Whip, Lindsay has established a proven record as a dynamic force for progressive reform. She co-founded Iowa’s first bipartisan, bicameral caucus to bridge political divides and passed vital protections for working families—including expanding access to affordable insulin and shielding mobile home residents from predatory corporate landlords. Lindsay is now running for Congress to bring her moral clarity, grassroots energy, and record of standing up to special interests to Washington.

How she’ll help your community:

  • Lowering the Cost of Living: Lindsay will tackle corporate price-gouging and billionaire greed by advocating for federal caps on prescription drugs, national paid family and medical leave, and expanded access to affordable housing and childcare.

  • Universal, High-Quality Healthcare: Believing no family should face bankruptcy over a medical emergency, Lindsay will fight to guarantee healthcare as a fundamental right, lower out-of-pocket prescription costs, and invest heavily in rural healthcare infrastructure.

  • Rooting Out Political Corruption: Driven by a commitment to get big money out of politics, Lindsay accepts no corporate PAC money and will fight to end dark money, overturn Citizens United, and restore a government that serves people rather than corporate lobbyists.

  • Defending Public Education: Rejecting voucher schemes that divert tax dollars to private schools, Lindsay will fight to fully fund public education, support educators, and protect schools as the foundation of strong communities.

Her position on key issues

  • Gun Violence Prevention: Lindsay supports common-sense gun safety reforms—including universal background checks and ban on assault weapons—to protect children, schools, and neighborhoods from violence.

  • Economic Support for Family Farmers: Lindsay stands with Iowa’s small and independent farmers, advocating for a strong Farm Bill, fair market access, and protections against agribusiness monopolies.

  • Family-Focused Tech Regulation: She advocates for strict oversight of Big Tech companies and social media platforms to safeguard children’s mental health and return digital safety controls to parents.

  • Environmental Stewardship & Clean Water: Rooted in protecting Iowa’s natural resources, Lindsay supports sustainable agricultural practices and federal investments in clean water infrastructure for future generations.
