MoveOn is proud to endorse Dr. Jasmine Clark for Georgia’s 13th Congressional District!
Leadership and Experience
With nearly a decade of experience as an educator, research scientist, and battle-tested public servant, Dr. Jasmine Clark has dedicated her career to bringing a “science voice” to public policy. Inspired by her parents—a doctor and a nurse—she pursued a lifelong love for science, earning her B.S. in Microbiology and her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from Emory University. Today, she serves as a senior lecturer at Emory’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, teaching human anatomy, physiology, and microbiology to the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Jasmine’s path to public service was sparked by the 2016 election and a growing national disregard for objective facts. She stepped up to organize and direct the 2017 Atlanta March for Science, mobilizing thousands of Georgians to advocate for evidence-based policymaking. In 2018, she successfully translated that grassroots energy into political action by flipping a long-held Republican seat in the Georgia House of Representatives. Despite state leadership redrawing her district three times to unseat her, she has repeatedly defended her community. Following the passing of the late Congressman David Scott, Jasmine won a highly competitive primary and is running for Congress to champion generational change and bring rational, data-driven leadership to Washington.
How she’ll help your community:
-
Protecting Public Health Data: Jasmine is a fierce defender of medical truth. In the state legislature, she famously stood up to state officials to expose the bungling and manipulation of public health data, and she will fight to shield federal health agencies from political interference.
-
Funding Life-Saving Medical Research: As a Ph.D. scientist, Jasmine knows that research is a vital lifeline. She will aggressively advocate for robust federal funding to study aggressive diseases that disproportionately impact minority communities, such as triple-negative breast cancer and prostate cancer.
-
Defending Reproductive Freedom: Jasmine fiercely opposes political attacks on bodily autonomy. She leverages her scientific background to dismantle unscientific abortion bans and will push for comprehensive federal protections for reproductive rights and maternal healthcare access.
-
Combatting Maternal Mortality: Deeply disturbed by the maternal mortality crisis that disproportionately claims the lives of Black women in Georgia, Jasmine will fight for systemic healthcare changes and federal resources to ensure safe pregnancies and deliveries for every mother.
