MICHIGAN—As Abdul El-Sayed jumpstarts his campaign to defeat Republican Mike Rogers in the race to become Michigan’s next U.S. Senator, MoveOn Political Action Chief Communications Officer Joel Payne released the following statement:
“Rep. Haley Stevens, Michigan state Sen. Mallory McMorrow, and Michigan Democrats are doing the work to unite their supporters behind Abdul El-Sayed. Rallying around El-Sayed is not just key to defeating MAGA and Mike Rogers, it’s what’s required if the party wants to have credibility with voters who are deeply distrusting of the status quo and who want leaders who will lower costs, stand up to big money, and fight for working people instead of waging costly, forever wars abroad.
“But instead of working to find common ground with El-Sayed, some in the establishment wing of our coalition are choosing to do MAGA’s bidding by going after boogeymen. Interest groups inside the Beltway should be listening to and following the lead of those on the ground in Michigan to keep building momentum and enthusiasm among the voters we need in our party now and come 2028.”
MoveOn Political Action mobilized a major statewide organizing and communications operation to help El-Sayed overcome more than $63 million in outside spending and win the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Michigan. MoveOn’s campaign generated more than 600,000 voter and member contacts through calls, texts, emails, mail, digital advertising, and volunteer organizing. The effort was part of MoveOn Political Action’s largest intervention in Democratic primaries to date and drew on the strength of more than 200,000 active MoveOn members in Michigan.
