WASHINGTON, D.C.—In response to the Supreme Court’s ruling that gives the Trump administration the power to use the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) voter database, part of President Trump’s plan to nationalize elections and experts have warned could result in voters being wrongly removed from the voting rolls, MoveOn Political Action Press Secretary Alan Calderon released the following statement:

“Donald Trump knows he’s on the verge of a historic midterm defeat, so he and the MAGA Supreme Court are laying the groundwork to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters and sow doubt in our elections. Rather than ending his illegal war in Iran, restoring Americans’ healthcare, or stopping his chaotic tariffs—anything to lower costs—he’s focused on breaking our democratic system. MoveOn members across the country are sick of cheating and betrayal, and they’re ready to vote in champions who will put Americans’ lives and rights first.”

Existing law blocks most states from systematically purging voters from their rolls within 90 days of an election, but a federal judge initially blocked the Trump administration from using the program with concerns that it could violate Americans’ privacy and result in people being wrongly removed from voter rolls. Research has repeatedly shown that noncitizens voting is exceptionally rare.
