about Josh Riley

MoveOn is proud to endorse Rep. Josh Riley for reelection in New York’s 19th Congressional District!

Leadership and Experience

A fifth-generation Upstate New Yorker, Josh Riley is not a career politician—he is a dedicated attorney and former public servant who has spent his career fighting for communities that have been left behind. Growing up in a working-class neighborhood in Endicott, Josh saw firsthand the devastating impact on families when local manufacturing plants closed while corporate profits soared on Wall Street.

Guided by that experience, Josh turned down lucrative Wall Street offers after law school to represent the American Academy of Pediatrics in a landmark civil rights lawsuit ensuring children from low-income families receive proper healthcare. He later served as general counsel to U.S. Senator Al Franken on the Senate Judiciary Committee, where he worked on bipartisan solutions to combat the opioid epidemic, protect survivors of domestic violence, and push back against harmful corporate mergers. Now running for Congress, Josh is determined to take on the corporate special interests and corrupt politicians who put themselves ahead of regular families.

How he’ll help your community:

  • Fighting Corruption & Dark Money: Josh led efforts to overturn Citizens United and eliminate the influence of dark money in politics. In Congress, he will fight to ensure the government answers to everyday people rather than wealthy corporations.

  • Defending Reproductive Freedom: Josh championed a major effort in federal court to ratify the federal Equal Rights Amendment to protect abortion access as a constitutional right, and he will continue to fiercely defend reproductive rights.

  • Putting Workers & Upstate First: Drawing on his time as a policy analyst at the Department of Labor, Josh will push for policies that revitalize communities hurt by bad trade deals, lower the cost of living, and keep good-paying jobs local.

  • Securing the Border & Strengthening Communities: Josh is focused on practical, bipartisan solutions to secure the border while also ensuring that local veterans, families, and workers get the resources and benefits they have earned.

His position on key issues

  • Healthcare for All Kids and Families: Josh has proven his commitment to healthcare equity by fighting in court to expand medical access for low-income children, and he continues to advocate for affordable, accessible care.

  • Combating the Opioid Epidemic: He has a proven track record of helping craft and pass bipartisan legislation to address the opioid crisis and protect vulnerable communities from its devastating effects.

  • Ending Corporate Influence: osh refuses to take a single dime of corporate PAC money. He believes a representative’s vote should never be for sale, relying instead on a grassroots campaign powered by regular people.

  • Strengthening Civil Rights: From advocating for the Equal Rights Amendment to working on legislation to restore the Voting Rights Act, Josh remains dedicated to protecting fundamental American freedoms.
