With decades of dedicated public service as a legislator, Attorney General, and Governor, Roy Cooper has spent his career fighting for everyday people and working families in North Carolina. Most recently, as the state’s 75th Governor, he led North Carolina to become one of the fastest-growing states in the nation, building a strong economy that saw the state named the best place for business three of the past four years. Working across the aisle, he championed historic, bipartisan initiatives to deliver better-paying jobs, support public education, and lift up communities across the state.

Roy’s deep commitment to service started in Nash County, where he attended public schools and worked summers on the family farm before earning his undergraduate and law degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill. After practicing law and serving in the state legislature—where he raised teacher pay and wrote the state’s first children’s health insurance initiative—he served four terms as Attorney General. In that role, he cracked down on predatory lenders, took on big banks and drug companies, and returned billions of dollars to North Carolinians. Now, he is running for the U.S. Senate to take on corporate greed, lower costs for the middle class, and bring common-sense leadership to Washington.

• Making Stuff Cost Less: Roy is focused on lowering the daily cost of living for working families. He will advocate for policies that curb corporate price-gouging on food and groceries, lower utility rates, and make high-quality child care affordable for parents.

• Access to Affordable Healthcare: A proven champion for healthcare, Roy brought Democrats and Republicans together to expand Medicaid in North Carolina, securing health insurance for over 650,000 people. In the Senate, he will fight to lower prescription drug costs, cap out-of-pocket expenses, and stop surprise medical billing.

• Tackling Medical Debt: Roy successfully enacted a plan to incentivize hospitals to relieve more than $4 billion in existing medical debt for 2 million North Carolinians. He will push for federal mandates that protect consumers from predatory medical debt and require hospitals to auto-enroll eligible families in charity care.

• Expanding Housing Security: Roy will stand up to the bad actors driving up the cost of housing. He supports increasing the federal supply of affordable homes, banning algorithm-driven rent setting, and stopping large corporations and investment funds from buying up single-family neighborhoods.
