MoveOn Launches $27M Program to Ensure Dems Win by Big Margins in the Midterms

Progressive group sees trust building, affordability, electing populist fighters as key to winning back 2024 “skippers” and gaining back power

WASHINGTON –
As reported in Politico today, MoveOn Political Action announced the launch of its $27 million election program to win big in the midterms, stop President Trump’s unchecked power, and rebuild trust with more voters, with an eye toward victory in 2028.

The progressive grassroots organization will be driving an affordability message; tapping its sizable activist base to phone-bank, canvass and GOTV for its endorsed candidates; and focusing on winning back the support of the disillusioned and disengaged Democratic-leaning voters who didn’t vote in 2024. In 11 tightly contested congressional districts, the group has enough of these “skippers” within its membership to make up the margin of victory in 2026.

MoveOn Executive Director Katie Bethell said, “Our program is laser-focused on reengaging and rebuilding trust with Democratic-leaning voters within MoveOn’s own membership base who sat out 2024.” She continued, “These are the most important voters for us, and the outcome of the midterms rests on bringing hundreds of thousands of them back into the fold. We’re endorsing exactly the type of candidates who can appeal to these voters—fighters in Washington who will lower prices, stand up to Trump and the billionaire Epstein class, and push back against the influence of dark money.”

MoveOn is backing a wave of bold, populist candidates, including making primary election endorsements of leaders like Brad Lander in New York, Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, and Peggy Flanagan in Minnesota, to send fighters to Congress who will not settle for the status quo. These endorsements are part of the largest primary campaign intervention in the history of the organization.

In total, MoveOn is endorsing 73 candidates, targeting 27 priority House districts and seven Senate seats (GA, MI, ME, MN, NC, OH, TX).

MoveOn’s aim this cycle is to deploy its highly engaged members to contact its target voters more than 4 million times across multiple channels. The group has amassed 20,000 new volunteers since November 2024 and plans to recruit and mobilize 15,000 new volunteers to meet these goals. The group’s member-to-member outreach results in double the average contact rate of traditional cold voter outreach.

Recognizing voters’ declining trust in legacy media, and the fragmented media environment, the group is also bypassing a traditional paid media program in favor of a sizable investment in local and national creators to reach voters who sat out the last election.
