About Nida Allam
MoveOn is proud to endorse Nida Allam for North Carolina’s 4th Congressional District!
Leadership and experience
Since being elected to the Durham County Commission in 2020, Nida Allam has served as chair and vice-chair, championing progressive reforms in housing, labor, and education. This includes securing historic funding for public schools and raising the minimum wage for county employees.
Her political career, sparked by the loss of three close friends to a hate crime, has been defined by leadership roles within the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign and the North Carolina Democratic Party. Now she is focused on bringing her advocacy for Medicare for All and working-class interests to the national level in Congress.
If elected, Nida will be a fearless shield for vulnerable populations against the Trump administration’s agenda. She remains unbought, unbossed, and unapologetic in her fight for the working class.
How she’ll help your community:
- Living wages and labor: Championing a $19/hour federal minimum wage and passing the PRO Act to strengthen union power and worker protections.
- Educational equity: Eliminating the burden of student debt and providing tuition-free public college and universal pre-K for working families.
- Holistic safety: Shifting resources toward community-based mental health and school-based support systems rather than expanded surveillance.
- Housing justice: Expanding the Green New Deal for Public Housing and fully funding Section 8 vouchers to ensure stable, climate-resilient homes for all.
Her positions on key issues:
- Health care for all: Fighting for Medicare for All, to guarantee comprehensive medical, dental, and reproductive care as a fundamental human right.
- Climate action: Implementing a Green New Deal to transition to 100% clean energy while creating high-paying, green, union jobs in North Carolina.
- Global human rights: Advocating for a foreign policy centered on peace, including an arms embargo to prevent human rights violations and an end to unauthorized wars.
- Immigration reform: Pursuing a path to citizenship, abolishing ICE, and ending the profit-driven detention of immigrants and refugees.
- Getting money out of politics: Refusing all corporate PAC and billionaire donor money to ensure the government serves people, not special interests.
