WASHINGTON – In response to President Trump’s immediate federal funding freeze directive, MoveOn Civic Action Executive Director Rahna Epting issued the following statement:
“There can be no misreading of President Trump’s governing agenda. He is empowering and enriching billionaires and loyalists while screwing over everyone else. It doesn’t matter whom you voted for or where you live, because Trump is moving to take away programs that help everyday Americans. Shuttering preschools, freezing Head Start aid to hungry young kids, and ending Meals on Wheels for seniors in need while pushing for tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans shows just how callous, cruel, and out of touch the president is.
“In the hours and days to come, we are going to learn more and more about how many programs and people are going to be hurt by Trump’s funding stop. We will not let spineless Republicans standing on the sidelines off the hook while Trump harms their constituents. They should expect the floodgates to open if they turn their back on kids and seniors.
“Most Americans are still struggling to get by, and they need stability and help, not chaos from Trump that will make their lives worse and drive up costs and screw our economy.”
