MoveOn Statement to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein, Cornel West: DROP OUT

Anemic fundraising confirms no viable paths forward other than spoiling the election in favor of Trump

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, MoveOn Political Action called on Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein, and Cornel West to drop out of the presidential race, citing their campaigns’ anemic fundraising, acceptance of help from Republican donors and operatives, and lack of viable paths to victory.

On Friday, FEC filings showed RFK Jr.’s Super PAC, American Values 2024, raised just $228,000 in June—its worst month so far this year. His campaign reported raising just shy of $5.4 million in June, including a $2.5 million infusion from his running mate, Nicole Shanahan—further proof that his campaign is being propped up by his billionaire running mate. The campaign is also more than $3 million in debt.

Stein finished June by reporting roughly $300,000 in donations and finished the month with a paltry $131,244 cash on hand.

West raised $63,581 in June, burned through $54,443, and entered July with $24,520 on hand and $16,958 in unpaid bills, which leaves him with $7,562 to wage a national campaign for president of the United States of America.

“The only reason for RFK Jr., Jill Stein, or Cornel West to remain in the presidential race would be to swing the election to Donald Trump. By continuing to work with Trump-aligned MAGA Republicans, they have proven that they are useful foils for Donald Trump, but they have no theory, no resources, and no path to win. They need to drop out immediately,” said MoveOn Chief Communications Officer Joel Payne. “Donald Trump will do whatever it takes to enact his Project 2025 takeover plan, which will hurt the middle class and threaten our personal freedoms.”

Background

RFK Jr. and West are spoiler candidates accepting help from Republican donors and operatives to elect Donald Trump.

  • In North Carolina, RFK Jr. and West are accused of “misleading” voters who signed their petitions and violating a state law that requires newly formed political parties to tell signers what the general purpose and intent of their party is.
  • West’s Justice for All Party authorized three people to pick up and drop off signatures for them in North Carolina. All three individuals are current or past employees of a Colorado-based Republican political firm called Blitz Canvassing, which has generated more than $14.6 million in payments for Never Back Down, the main Super PAC that supported Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
  • RFK Jr. is also awaiting hearings in New York about the validity of his signatures, as well as the home address he listed on his petition paperwork. He claimed his home is in New York, not in California, where he resides.
  • In Delaware, RFK Jr. is working with the Independent Party of Delaware (IPD), which has known ties to extremist, right-wing individuals. Its vice chairman, Phil Dyer, attended the riot at the Capitol on January 6 and recently called for another
  • RFK Jr. is also working with the Natural Law Party of Michigan, which nominated him at a two-person convention led by a part-time magician, while leaders from the same party’s Florida branch called RFK Jr.’s campaign “scammers.”
  • Trump allies have publicly stated they are plotting to spoil the election against the Harris ticket by backing third-party candidates, including RFK Jr., Stein, and West.
