MoveOn on Louisiana, Minnesota, Dallas tragedies

MoveOn.org Civic Action Executive Director Anna Galland:

“We’re heartbroken by the senseless killings this week: of five officers by a sniper in Dallas, and of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, two Black men killed by police in Louisiana and in Minnesota in the days prior. These events demand that we confront our country’s violent gun culture, pervasive structural racism, and those who practice the politics of division and hate.

“The last thing we need is more violent and hate-baiting rhetoric like what we’re seeing from former Congressman Joe Walsh and right-wing pundits. We don’t need fear-mongering calls for more guns or more militarized policing. We don’t need a further crackdown on peaceful, lawful protesters or to cast blame at peaceful movements that are confronting police violence. We need to protect civil liberties and fight for the civil rights of Black people and all Americans, while keeping our neighbors and communities safe.”
