Shocking Video: WI Legislator Tackled Entering Capitol

On Thursday night, Wisconsin State Rep. Nick Milroy (D) attempted to enter the Capitol building to pick up some clothes from his office. Here’s what happened:

Rep. Milroy was one of the five assembly Democrats who moved his desk to the Capitol lawn to meet with his constituents after access to the building was severely limited a few days ago.

Update: Here is Rep. Milroy’s statement after the incident.

Reported by WKOW and WISN in Wisconsin.

Who voted these people in office who are causing all the strife..the republicans? This is why you HAVE to vote in EVERY election folks…state, local, federal county whatever. Even if there is a special election concerning porta potties and stuffed duckling toys you should vote. Because people did not vote in the state elections and the republicans took control again. And look at our country. I am actually starting to be ashamed to be american right now, and that is horrible I should have to feel that way. My family is decorated war heroes and military veterans…and I am still ashamed and many of them are too…

How can this behavior be tolerated? While People in the Middle East are fighting for their democratic rights and equality, this corrupt and undemocratic behavior is being tolerated right here in our country. I don’t understand how this continues with nary a word from our Leader. PRESIDENT OBAMA…WHERE ARE YOU? WHY HAVE YOU NOT EVEN UTTERED A WORD IN DEFENSE OF WISCONSIN? HOW ARE YOU ALLOWING SCOTT WALKER TO CONTINUE THIS CORRUPT NONSENSE FAVORING THE RICH? Not only is He is breaking the Unions, he is breaking the backs of teacher, firemen, policemen and the entire Middle Class. Rhode Island is following suit…You promised CHANGE…This was NOT what the Voters thought you were talking about…

He has to be in office for at least 1 year before he can be recalled……. he’s been there less than 8 weeks as of now….. so the Wisconsinites have to wait for a while.

Thanks a lot Joseph. I heart Wisconsin – went to college there in the 90s, and the people are sweet as sugar. I am totally proud (and in awe) of the “Wisconsin 14.” A fire’s been lit in the working man’s heart, and the Republicans and their corporate masters (especially the KOCH brothers) would rue the day they riled the “friendly” people of Wisconsin!

True, he cannot be recalled (yet), but the senators backing him CAN be! The papers have been filed and the petitions are circulating. Walker cannot be removed, but he can be severely weakened.

  • Gert B Frobe

Yes there is but they have to wait til 2012, so I hope they have a good memory!

Rather than repeating “you don’t have the whole transcript” you could provide a link to it. Oh, and after you’ve enlightened us with the link, perhaps you would like to comment on exactly why you seem to have a problem with the tone of this thread?

Freekin cops need to figure out who’s side their on . How about checking his ID before you crusify him . Next thing you know we will have another Oscar Grant situation . This us against them mentality needs to change, not everyone you deal with is a criminal in spite of what you may have heard , A little common sense goes a long way guys.

Brilliant! It’d be great if the national media would highlight these RECALL efforts. MSNBC has been superb in their coverage – their evening line-up (LAST WORD, RACHEL MADDOW and THE ED SHOW) do an outstanding job reporting on these protests. The protesters get to freshen up over the weekend, regroup, and come back on Monday determined more than ever to get Gov. Walker’s attention. Take the collective bargaining language out of this crappy bill, agree to sit at the table with the workers’ labor representatives, and this can end quickly. But would he see this as the wisest step to take for the sake of Wisconsin?n

So the police were “only following orders” were they. Where have we heard that excuse before? It didn’t work then, and it shouldn’t work now.

The State of Winconsin should be alarmed and ashamed of its governor right now. He can’t have his way so he stomps his feet on the elected officials he dosen’t agree with, SHAME ON HIM, does he know he is not in Libia????

This was an unfortunate incident, but let’s remember all of the good the police officers have done in Wisconsin during the protest. They handled themselves well for a long and stressful two weeks, and one officer making a mistake should not take away from that. Notice that after the misunderstanding, the officer realizes his mistake and let’s the Rep. up. nnTensions have been running high and police officers are people too. I’m not saying this is right, but it doesn’t seem like he was targeted for who he was. Rather, it seems like the officer thought someone was breaking in and tried to prevent him. nnLet’s remember that police officers are public employees too and have shown support for their fellow workers. They are not the enemy.

Shame on Walker and double shame on the law enforcement officers doing his bidding…after all are they not unionized public employees?! In Libya the military sided with the people. Why aren’t the law enforcement officers refusing to cooperate with Walker and his cronies and siding with the workers?????

  • Anonymous

Last time I checked law enforcement officers were unionized public employees. Shame on Walker, but double shame on the law enforcement officers! Even the military in Egypt knew to disobey orders and side with the Libyan people instead of the Mubarek. I am extremely disappointed in the law enforcement officers in this video and urge their unions to rethink whose side they are on. Disgusting!

Umm, I agree it’s necessary to vote in every election, but it’s the demoncrats who’ve put your state on the verge of bankruptcy. The Republican’s are trying to stop the out of control spending. You should be ashamed to be a democrat.

  • Anonymous

So, are you saying that anyone in Wisconsin who has worked his butt off as an independent small business man is not a “working man”? Those who understand it is the individual who made this country great, and not the mob mentality of a union, are not considered part of your definition of the “working man”? nAmazing. And pathetic!

  • Anonymous

How can you not understand that it is the greedy socialist unions and the greedy socialist politicians who have created the current fiscal fiasco in Wisconsin? Blame Walker’s predecessors and the greedy union bosses (as well as the greedy members). Gov. Walker is merely trying to be the adult in this situation and do the responsible thing by reigning in the out of control spending. nOh, and don’t look to the White House for any real leadership on this: your president is once again voting “present” (how’s that whole hopey changey thing working out for you?).

  • Anonymous

YOU’RE BACKING THE WRONG CRUSADE, CRUSADER…YOU ARE WRONG WRONG WRONG.nWalker is a corrupt politician that went into office with a surplus in his budget that he immediately gave back to special interest groups that financed his campaign as well as the many other Tea Partiers that ran for office in the election. Does the name KOCH BROTHERS ring a bell? Yes, he paid back the Koch Brothers with the funds in the Budget and now is ramming the expense on the backs of the working class. The Pensions that the Union brokered for the Teachers were all paid for by deferred salary payments of the Teachers–part of their Salary that they did not take but requested they be put in a fund and taken when they retire. The Teachers actually agreed to take a Salary Cut saying they understood the state of the Economy and were willing to take a pay cut but Walker refused…he is all about breaking the Unions–not balancing his budget. If he truly was concerned about the budget, he would not have cut the taxes for the Millionaire/Billionaires…Obviously you have been brain washed by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh–unless, of course, you are a Millionaire and feel fine about watching America’s Middle Class be eliminated .

Since I am an older American, I do know that law enforcement of late seems to attract gangster types that cannot wait to take out their aggression on others. That is a human trait and needs to be controlled. That is why people were supposed to be raised in the Word and learn self control growing up. Now everyone acts like an animal and is controlled by the state. That is the parents fault or lack of parenting. I really do think that the US is horrible at this time in our history. The citizens are really treated badly in all manner and taken advantage of. It is human nature to be agressive and try to lord over others. Problem is, most of the leaders are fools and bought and paid for. They have no business being in their position, but were placed there so that certain laws will be passed and big business and banks will continue to run everything. People appear to be very stupid and lazy in America and I am ashamed of them. I am willing to die for what I believe in, but if nobody else cares, nwhat is the point of my sacrafiice? Risk my life for no reason? Believe that our forefathers died in vain for our freedom? Things have to change!nnnnnn

Governor Walker should be voted out of office as soon as possible or thrown out immediately.

Anyway we can get some intelligent celebrities to Ohio for any of our union rallies. We are in a fight for our life against the Republicans. It looks like sb5 will sail through the House like it did through the Senate. to stop it a referendum is required to have verified signatures for 6% of total votes cast in the last gubernatorial election. In this case, that means 231,147 verified signatures, which means we will need close to 500,000 signatures to ensure we have the needed number of verified signatures

Unions are the only viable way to stand up to corporations screwing workers out of fair wages and humane working conditions. Don’t deceive yourself by thinking otherwise. The average employed person (even the most well-educated and skilled) stand no chance against a multi-billion dollar company or a local, state or federal govt agency. Small businesses are GREAT but workers banding together into Unions give them a strong voice against abuse and slave-like work conditions. And, yes, Unionized workers are better-paid, have better benefits and work conditions, and are the majority of our celebrated MIDDLE CLASS.n

GREED? A school teacher, police officer or fireman making roughly $50,000/year is greed? A communications worker making the same amount is also greedy? If so, what do you call the Governor making $150,000+/year or the CEOs and other business executives making $50million/year? How about the taxpayer bailed-out company executives making ? Pray tell us, 1Crusader – in which scenario is the word GREED more appropriate? Stop fighting the truth.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6ZNBOXW6FIEY6QTKM3357JDSSY John

I agree with your assessment, Melissa. And I think even the Congressman himself does, too. It is all Gov. Walker’s fault. He is putting the cops in a bad spot, and they don’t like it. In fact, the police are the ones who refused to remove the protesters from the State House until the Court ruled for their temporary removal for cleaning, etc. Come tomorrow, Monday, the people of Wisconsin will be welcome back into THEIR house! And the cops will side with them!n

Draconian spending cuts – especially those that deprive low-income citizens – would short-circuit our recovery from this current recession. Low and middle-income wage earners spend MOST (IF NOT ALL) of any tax cuts (or govt food or other assistance) that they receive, thus spurring economic activity. They put the money right back into the economy, purchasing essential goods and services. Same goes for true “small businesses,” not your craftily designed S-Corporations masquerading as “small businesses.” That is why the temporary social security tax cut, and the making-work-pay tax credits are working. The economy is on course to recovery, you deficit-spending Republicans (who created this mess in the first place) better keep your hands off it.
