Jimmy Wong Combats Cyberbullies…With Love?

Alexandra Wallace was just another undergraduate student at UCLA studying political science—until she posted a three-minute-long, scathingly racist vlog about Asian students. She even complains about Asian students using their cellphones in the school library to call family members after the tsunami in Japan.

It’s easy to react to an incident like this with a similar, vitriolic response. But that’s not what 24-year-old Jimmy Wong decided to do. Check out his response:

Perhaps because of Jimmy’s video, Alexandra has now apologized:

“Clearly the original video posted by me was inappropriate. I cannot explain what possessed me to approach the subject as I did, and if I could undo it, I would. I’d like to offer my apology to the entire UCLA campus. And for those who cannot find it within them to accept my apology, I understand.”

Jimmy Wong’s lyrics say it all: “And underneath the pounds of makeup and your baby blue eyes, I know there’s a lot of pain and hurt for such a big brain to spend all night studying poli-sci.”

Although Alexandra said many hateful things in her vlog, we hope her apology is sincere, and that she’ll understand what possessed her do to this in the first place. And eventually, hopefully, she’ll use her poli-sci powers for good.
