MoveOn.org Statement on Kansas Shooting and Trump’s Continued Anti-Muslim, Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric

Statement from Ilya Sheyman, executive director of MoveOn.org Political Action, in response to the anti-immigrant shooting near Kansas City. According to reports, the shooter targeted two Indian men, shouting “Get out of my country.” One of the men, 32-year-old Srinivas Kuchibhotla, died; his wife, Sunayana Dumala, has demanded an answer on what is being done to stop hate crimes in this country.

“It’s unconscionable and unacceptable that Donald Trump and leaders throughout the administration continue to spread anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant bigotry, fear, and hate.

“In the weeks since Trump took office, anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant threats have intensified, fueled by his hateful and divisive policies and rhetoric, and his silence after attacks by white nationalists, and hate crimes perpetrated against people of color.

“Americans deserve better from our leaders. We stand with Muslims, immigrants, people of color, and all front-line communities facing attacks fueled by this administration’s embrace of white supremacist and anti-immigrant policies and rhetoric.”
