MoveOn: RNC Resolution Condemning White Supremacists Without Mentioning Trump’s Comments Offensive, Shameful

Ilya Sheyman, executive director of MoveOn.org Political Action, responded to news that the Republican National Committee approved a resolution reading “Nazis, the KKK, white supremacists and others are repulsive, evil and have no fruitful place in the United States,” without mentioning Donald Trump, who has fueled white supremacists with his remarks in response to Charlottesville:
“The RNC resolution is worse than a joke, it is offensive and shameful. The head of the Republican Party, Donald Trump, has spent the better part of the last two weeks making excuses for and encouraging white supremacists. The head of the Republican Party, who the RNC was too cowardly to even name today, got his start in politics by peddling a racist lie about President Obama. And of course, numerous planks of the Republican Party platform, endorsed by RNC members, seek to expand institutional racism in this country.
“It is beyond ironic that a party whose symbol is an elephant can’t name the biggest elephant in the room—Donald Trump.
“Trump traveled coast to coast last year asking Black voters, ‘what do you have to lose?,’ calling Mexicans ‘rapists,’ and demanding a ban on Muslims entering the U.S. His response to Charlottesville and the RNC’s shameful act today is a reminder of what voters of color and all Americans have to lose with this administration.”
