Catherine Thomasson, MD, executive director of Physicians for Social Responsibility, offered the following statement in support of the historic nuclear deal with Iran:
“The Congressional debate over the Iran deal has come down to rhetoric versus reality. The Iran deal blocks all four ways that Iran could obtain a nuclear weapon. The diplomatic solution between 7 countries required skill, sanctions and focus on one issue: keeping Iran from developing the bomb. It was not designed to address human rights, or terrorism or Middle East wars. The deal provides strict inspections of all current facilities and a critical path of inspections for any new areas that might become suspect. So… do we want nuclear weapons in Iran’s hands or not? This is the safest, sanest and only way to that solution.”
