DETROIT —Following the news that Mike Rogers attended three fundraisers hosted by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Los Angeles this weekend, MoveOn Political Action Chief Communications Officer Joel Payne released the following statement:
“The choice between Michigan’s Senate candidates couldn’t be more clear: Abdul El-Sayed is fighting to lower costs for Michigan families, while Mike Rogers is busy cozying up to a war-loving, dark-money group that unconditionally supports Donald Trump’s disastrous war in the Middle East. The people of Michigan already voted in record numbers for a people-centered agenda and rejected dark money from groups like AIPAC once in this election. MoveOn members are ready to show up for Dr. El-Sayed because Michiganders, not lobbyists, deserve a voice in the United States Senate.”
The Detroit News reported that Rogers joined the fundraisers despite expressing reservations about the organization’s support. Rogers has accepted tens of thousands of dollars in donations from AIPAC, and the organization has expressed unconditional support for the Trump administration’s war in the Middle East. The war in Iran is costing an average of $1,200 per household between increased gas and grocery prices.
