Progressives are counting on Democrats to vote for spending bill that includes a clean Dream Act before 2018 to end uncertainty and fear for immigrant youth and their families
New survey data from MoveOn.org illustrates that progressive voters want Democratic incumbents to use their leverage in the upcoming spending bill fight to pass a clean Dream Act this year and are open to 2018 primary challengers against Democratic incumbents and Senate hopefuls in key states if they “vote for a GOP spending bill without Congress fixing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, by passing the Dream Act”:
— In CA, 79% of MoveOn members responded that they’d support a primary challenger against Sen. Dianne Feinstein
— In IN, 75% of MoveOn members responded that they’d support a primary challenger against Sen. Joe Donnelly
— In MO, 57% of MoveOn members responded that they’d support a primary challenger against Sen. Claire McCaskill
— In AZ, 85% of MoveOn members responded that they’d support a different candidate than Rep. Kyrsten Sinema in the Democratic primary
— In NV, 80% of MoveOn members responded that they’d support a different candidate than Rep. Jacky Rosen in the Democratic primary
“Progressive voters are not playing politics when it comes to protecting 800,000 immigrant youth from being forced to spend the holiday season in uncertainty and fear,” said Ilya Sheyman, executive director of MoveOn.org Political Action. “It’s clear that progressive voters are prepared to hold Democratic candidates and incumbents accountable in 2018 if they join the GOP in passing a deportation budget.”
MoveOn also recently released a poll in conjunction with Public Policy Polling (PPP) consisting of 25 Republican-held battleground districts, demonstrating that voters (primarily Republican) support a clean Dream Act 3-to-1 and would blame the GOP if there were a government shutdown if they refuse to vote on the Dream Act.
