MoveOn Statement on Senate War Powers Resolution Vote

WASHINGTONFollowing the U.S. Senate voting to advance Senator Tim Kaine’s war powers resolution seeking to rein in President Trump’s military action against Venezuela, MoveOn Civic Action spokesperson Britt Jacovich released the following statement:

“Venezuelans should be running Venezuela, period. Americans don’t want to foot the tab for another costly endless war, especially at a time when the Trump administration is running our economy into the ground and making life worse for working people here at home. The Senate should pass this resolution as soon as possible and the House needs to follow suit and vote to stop Trump’s gross abuse of power and needless acts of war.”

This week, MoveOn circulated a mobile “Healthcare Not Warfare” billboard around the Capitol to pressure Congress to rein Trump in. Americans have made clear their concern over the U.S. military action in Venezuela, and that is why MoveOn’s latest petition demanding no U.S. occupation of Venezuela and calling for Congress to block funding for unauthorized military action is the fastest-growing SMS petition for the organization in five years.
