MoveOn members ramp up pressure with in-district visits and mobile billboards as DHS funding deadline looms
WASHINGTON – As the DHS funding deadline looms, MoveOn Civic Action has escalated its pressure on the Senate to prevent any additional spending on ICE. MoveOn members are holding in-district visits this week with key offices, and the organization has commissioned mobile billboards to circulate in D.C. and in high-traffic areas of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with the message “Sen. Thune gutted your healthcare to give billions to ICE & DHS Sec. Noem. We deserve better.”
“A vote for more DHS funding is a vote for ICE’s ongoing killing of Americans and kidnapping of children,” said MoveOn Civic Action spokesperson Britt Jacovich. “MoveOn members haven’t budged, and neither should Senate Democrats: not one more dollar for Trump’s violent ICE. Our communities deserve real public safety and meaningful solutions to our broken immigration system.”
MoveOn members have made more than 22,000 calls and sent 55,000 letters to Congress in recent weeks to protest any additional funding of the agency causing violence and chaos across Minneapolis and around the country. This week, members are holding visits or actions in the offices of Representatives Cuellar (TX-28), Davis (NC-01), Gillen (NY-04), Golden (ME-02), Gonzalez (TX-34), Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03), Suozzi (NY-03), and Senators Cassidy (R-LA), Collins (R-ME), Fetterman (D-PA), Moran (R-KS), Murkowski (R-AK), Thune (R-SD), and Tillis (R-NC).
