MoveOn.org Civic Action Executive Director Anna Galland had the following reaction to the news that Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid will retire after the next elections:

Reid has been a hugely significant leader on so many fronts, from securing the support of every single member of his caucus for historic legislation that dramatically expanded access to health care, to preventing diplomacy-killing Iran sanctions legislation, to being a steadfast champion of Social Security and standing up to those who would have bargained benefits away. He was quick to recognize the important role the Internet has played in changing our politics and expanding the power of grassroots progressives, and he’s modeled strong relationship-building with the progressive community and netroots. He has been an especially powerful advocate for his constituents in Nevada.
