MoveOn Celebrates Win for Grassroots in Senate’s Rejection of Keystone XL Pipeline, Turns Focus to President Obama

In reaction to this evening’s Senate vote on the Keystone XL pipeline, MoveOn Lead Campaign Director Victoria Kaplan released the following statement:

“Today’s Senate rejection of the dangerous Keystone XL pipeline is a win for grassroots activists and the American public, and echoes the voices of MoveOn members who have said loudly and clearly that they expect elected officials to stand up to the fossil fuel industry and stop this carbon bomb.

This vote is a lesson for Democrats who have gotten cozy with corporate interests intent on putting profits before our communities and climate. Any elected official, on either side of the aisle, should think hard before propping up dangerous projects like the Keystone XL pipeline and know that MoveOn members will be watching.

This pipeline is not yet dead–the ball is now in President Obama’s court. We urge him to stand up for people–and oppose corporate polluters–by rejecting Keystone XL.”
