Join NowAP: The anti-Musk protest movement is expected to ramp up with Congress on recess
NEW MEMO: Top Five Questions for Lawmakers in the Upcoming
WASHINGTON – As reported in the AP, MoveOn Civic Action today announced a nationwide “Congress Works for Us, Not Musk” mobilization during the upcoming congressional recess (February 15-23), with rallies and town hall actions aimed at pressuring lawmakers to fight back against the Trump-Musk agenda. With critical budget fights ahead, MoveOn members will demand answers on billionaire tax breaks, cuts to essential programs, and the growing influence of unelected billionaire Elon Musk over government institutions.
MoveOn members and allies will show up at congressional-led town halls and congressional offices across the country, targeting House Republicans whose votes will be crucial in opposing Trump and Musk’s harmful policies. Rallies will also take place in Democratic districts and states, including ones represented by House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, to champion Democrats who are fighting for us and to encourage them to keep all options on the table to blunt Trump and Musk. Key districts include AZ-01, AZ-06, CA-41, CO-08, PA-08, and VA-02.
MoveOn Executive Director Rahna Epting said, “Across the country, we are witnessing an extraordinary surge of grassroots energy in response to the dangerous agenda being pushed by Trump, Musk, and their Republican allies. Americans are deeply concerned about billionaire tax breaks coming at the expense of working families, critical government programs, and our democracy itself. Our message is clear: Lawmakers must stand with their constituents, not the ultra-wealthy. During this recess, they will hear directly from voters who expect them to take bold action and accountability seriously.”
Since Trump and Musk took office in January, MoveOn members have been increasingly vocal, including co-leading the “Nobody Elected Elon!” rally outside the Treasury Department, which brought out over 3,500 attendees and dozens of lawmakers. MoveOn members have also generated more than 24,000 calls to Congress opposing Musk’s reckless policies and fighting back against Republican efforts to slash government programs in favor of billionaire tax cuts.
As part of the recess mobilization, MoveOn also released a memo outlining the top five questions lawmakers must answer during recess, including whether they support cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid; whether they will hold Trump and Musk accountable before voting on budget reconciliation; and what steps they will take to prevent Musk from accessing Americans’ personal data through federal institutions.
