Maine Gov: “Worst Case Is Some Women Have Little Beards”

Paul LePage, the governor of Maine, isn’t too concerned about BPA. In fact, he sees the well-documented health risks of this toxic chemical as basically no big deal, especially when it comes to women:

“The only thing that I’ve heard is if you take a plastic bottle and put it in the microwave and you heat it up, it gives off a chemical similar to estrogen. So the worst case is some women may have little beards.”

Contrast that with the Environmental Working Group, which says:

Trace BPA exposure has been shown to disrupt the endocrine system and trigger a wide variety of disorders, including chromosomal and reproductive system abnormalities, impaired brain and neurological functions, cancer, cardiovascular system damage, adult-onset diabetes, early puberty, obesity and resistance to chemotherapy.
