ICYMI Petition Delivery: George Santos Must Resign or Be Expelled

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday morning, MoveOn, Make the Road Action, the Working Families Party, NY-3 constituents, and local activists gathered at Representative George Santos’s district office to deliver a MoveOn petition with over 100,000 signatures demanding he resign from office or be removed by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Today’s event comes on the heels of recent public polling from Siena College that shows that nearly 4 in 5 residents in Santos’s district support his removal from office.

In an interview with Long Island Business News, MoveOn Executive Director Rahna Epting shared how the petition responding to Santos’s lies and deceitful behavior is reflective of voters’ “palpable outrage.”

At the event, constituents and leaders voiced why Santos is not fit to serve and does not represent the best interests of the people of New York’s 3rd Congressional District.

“George Santos is not fit to represent the people of NY-03, and he must go,” said Epting. “Allowing George Santos, who has fabricated his entire life story, to serve in the House is another outrageous illustration of just how much the GOP will do to hoard power without any regard for the health of our democratic institutions. MoveOn is proud to amplify the voices of concerned community leaders who are demanding George Santos be removed from office.”

Charlie Robbins, a Santos constituent and MoveOn member, added, “Being elected to Congress is an honor which carries with it a responsibility. There is no question in my mind that Mr. Santos is not fit to represent the people of Congressional District 3.  We have no idea what he stands for except himself and his power and greed. That is why I joined over 100,000 people in signing this petition calling on Mr. Santos to resign.”

“The real issue here is money in politics. Big money props up bad candidates, voters tune out because they feel they have no one to vote for and their vote doesn’t matter. George Santos must resign today, and (we must) begin the process to find a real representative for the residents of the 3rd Congressional District,” added Long Island Progressive Coalition Executive Director Lisa Tyson

MoveOn, event partners Working Families Party and Make the Road Action along with dozens of local activists outside the Santos district office.

“George Santos has lied about everything under the sun. While it’s easy to write him off as a comical sideshow, every day that Santos remains in office is another day that NY-3 residents are deprived of honest and dependable representation. House Republicans are desperate for every last vote—even if it comes from a con artist—just so they can pass policies that further enrich their wealthy friends. Working Families Party members in NY-3 have had enough of George Santos and call on him to resign immediately.” – Joe Sackman, Nassau Chapter of the Working Families Party
