Grassroots Groups Announce 500K Call Push to Protect Health Care in Shutdown Showdown

Indivisible, MoveOn, and Working Families Power Combine Efforts to Ensure Dems Keep Holding the Line

WASHINGTONAs health care premiums prepare to go up and the Trump-Republican shutdown continues, grassroots groups are coming together to push half a million calls to Congress to protect health care access.

Throughout this week, Indivisible, MoveOn Civic Action, and Working Families Power (WFP) are activating their members to place calls to Congress to demand they preserve ACA subsidies and reinstate life-saving Medicaid funding that Republicans gutted to make way for tax cuts for billionaires. Through phone banks, call-in tools, texts, and emails pushing calls, the grassroots groups are harnessing the voices of their sizable memberships to support Democrats who have held the line to protect health care and push others to stay the course. They are distributing a toolkit of resources to their volunteers and members.

MoveOn Civic Action spokesperson Britt Jacovich released the following statement: “We’re putting it all on the line because Americans simply cannot afford to see their premiums go up or lose health care access altogether. Trump and Republicans created this mess and have refused to put working families’ health and economic well-being over the interest of billionaires. Democrats who resisted caving will hear loud and clear from their constituents this week that they have their backs.”
