about Greg Casar

MoveOn is proud to endorse Rep. Greg Casar for reelection in Texas’s 37th Congressional District!

Leadership and Experience

A former labor organizer and the son of Mexican immigrants, Greg has spent his career building power for working people. Before his election to Congress in 2022, he served for seven years on the Austin City Council, where he became a national leader in progressive policy. There, he authored and passed groundbreaking legislation, including paid sick leave ordinances in Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio, and championed bold programs for affordable housing and tenant protections against corporate abuse.

In Congress, Greg serves as the Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, leading more than 100 members in the fight to prioritize people over corporate interests. In his first term, he successfully pushed for the introduction of the first-ever federal heat rule to protect millions of American workers and authored legislation to connect the Texas power grid to the national grid to prevent future blackouts.

How he’ll help your community:

  • Dignity for All Workers: A champion for labor, Greg is fighting to raise the federal minimum wage, expand overtime pay, and strengthen the right to organize, ensuring that the economy works for families rather than big corporations.

  • Economic Justice & Reliability: Greg is committed to building a government that delivers for working people. He continues to lead efforts to connect the Texas power grid, lower energy costs, and hold corporations accountable.

  • Climate Action: Greg advocates for a Green New Deal, supporting policies that transition to a clean energy economy while creating good-paying union jobs for the future.

  • Protecting Our Rights: As Chair of the Progressive Caucus, Greg is a vocal leader in the fight to restore abortion rights, expand voting rights, and protect the foundational civil liberties of all Americans.

His position on key issues

  • Healthcare for All: Greg is an original co-sponsor of Medicare for All, viewing healthcare as a fundamental human right rather than a privilege.

  • Immigration Justice: Growing up as the son of Mexican immigrants, Greg Casar understands firsthand that our immigration system is broken and in need of fundamental reform. He is a steadfast advocate for policies that honor the dignity of all families, fighting to protect DACA recipients, defend Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and ensure a clear, fair path to citizenship for those who call the United States home. Greg rejects the politics of fear and exclusion, championing instead a humane system that addresses the root causes of migration, protects refugees, and keeps families together.

  • Housing as a Human Right: Drawing on his experience as a city council member, he promotes bold affordable housing solutions and protections for renters to ensure everyone has a safe and stable place to live.

  • Ending Corporate Influence: Greg relies on grassroots organizing rather than corporate PAC money, remaining committed to transparency and an ethical government that serves the public interest.
