So you’ve heard about Project 2025 by now. But we’ve got to talk about how it attacks the LGBTQ+ community.
Project 2025 is a detailed MAGA manifesto that aims to put white Christian nationalism at the center of the federal government. The $22 million effort has a 920-page manifesto describing plans to enact discriminatory policy against LGBTQ+ people, and it would rip apart families, remove workplace protections, and criminalize being transgender.
Not only would Project 2025 roll back existing protections for LGBTQ+ people, it would also allow discrimination in the workplace, health care, education, and beyond by ignoring precedent that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
The proposed policies would remove LGBTQ+-inclusive curriculum from classrooms and make it harder for transgender people to access critical health services.
Project 2025 calls for the Department of Health and Human Services to reverse its focus from “LGBTQ+ equity, subsidizing single-motherhood, disincentivizing work, and penalizing marriage, replacing such policies with those encouraging marriage, work, motherhood, fatherhood, and nuclear families” (p. 284).
The extreme Republican agenda also wants to go much further than their books bans and directly attempt to intimidate and criminalize teachers and librarians who teach acceptance.
And with plans to remove the terms “gender identity” and “diversity” from government language and criminalize gender-affirming care, it’s clear that Project 2025 aims to eradicate queer people from society and demonize their existence.
When people learn about Trump’s Project 2025, they reject it. It’s up to us to continue exposing this dangerous government takeover and mobilize people to defeat MAGA this November.
