The problem in 2024
Lots of people sat out the 2024 election.
It could even be argued that Vice President Kamala Harris lost the White House solely because 19 million people who voted for Joe Biden for president in 2020 sat out in 2024.
Many of these voters were alienated by Democratic leaders who disappointed them and a broken political system that empowers billionaires and the corrupt Epstein class to rig the rules in their favor. Life is too hard, and the prices for what we need to survive—food, gas, medicine, housing—keep rising. We need leaders who deliver real results.
Democratic leaders have to re-earn the trust of these voters while continuing to build trust with rank-and-file Democratic base voters.
MoveOn’s solution for the 2026 midterms
MoveOn’s 2026 midterm plan is to reach out to Democratic-leaning voters who skipped the 2024 election but voted in 2020—an audience we’re calling the “skippers.” We’re going to engage these voters in key states and persuade them to vote for progressive candidates in this and future elections.
There are enough MoveOn members who skipped the last election but voted in 2020 to make up the margin of victory in 11 tightly contested congressional districts. We need to flip only four seats to take back the House. That’s why, in this cycle, the most important voter is already a MoveOn member.
We know MoveOn members are the core path to victory. We want to listen to everything you care about and how you want to show up, which is why we’re also doing member listening and sending out surveys—so that we can tell candidates what matters most to their constituents.
And we’re not just asking members to vote against Trump and MAGA.
We’re asking them to vote for bold leaders who will fight for concrete plans to lower the skyrocketing cost of living.
The best way to safeguard an election is to win it by a landslide, so we need to win by the biggest possible margin.
How MoveOn is going to target registered voters who skipped the 2024 election to win the 2026 midterms
Our plan is to mobilize tens of thousands of volunteers to:
- Contact and persuade voters. We KNOW people are more likely to vote and get involved when they are contacted by someone they trust. We’re equipping MoveOn members with the knowledge to talk to fellow MoveOn members and voters who skipped the 2024 election to persuade them to vote and get involved. We know that calling members has double the contact rate of cold-calling voters.
- Offer organizing support for progressive candidates. MoveOn is made up of millions of members, and they will donate their time to volunteer in support of candidates they believe in.
- Organize local canvassing, phone banks, and other in-person actions. We know how to get the word out and make a difference. This election cycle, we’ll be going door-to-door, calling registered voters in key districts, and hosting volunteer training events, which we’re calling tailgate parties, to get people out to vote.
MAGA Republicans are counting on bullying us into submission, silence, and resignation.
But we’re not backing down in the slightest.
The power still belongs to us, and you’re exactly who we need to stop MAGA in its tracks this fall.
