Do NOT freeze or cut federal aid!
Will you add your name to the petition to show that we, the people, OPPOSE Trump freezing federal funds that go toward our children, families, schools, and communities?
Sign this PetitionWASHINGTON – Ahead of today’s anticipated vote on a funding package, including for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the agency that oversees Trump’s murderous ICE forces, MoveOn Civic Action spokesperson Britt Jacovich released the following statement:
“With Trump’s ICE murdering our neighbors, kidnapping children, and terrorizing our streets, do Senate Democrats want to be remembered as fighters or as complicit? Body cameras and new training is not nearly enough to reverse the damage and terror that CBP and ICE have inflicted on our communities. It would be a mistake for anyone in Congress to ignore the heartbreaking and righteous pleas from Minnesotans who have taken to the streets to defend their communities and the majority of Americans who reject ICE’s actions. MoveOn members and the entire country are watching, and if Senate Democrats take real action to rein in Trump’s ICE, we will have their backs.”
Last week, Puck News and Axios highlighted how MoveOn Civic Action increased the grassroots pressure on Congress to reject the The Homeland Security Appropriations Act. Over the last few weeks, there has been a historic rise in MoveOn member advocacy for the Trump administration and Congress to rein in ICE, with more than 51,000 letters sent to Congress and 18,000 calls made to their offices in recent weeks. Members have been activated to call congressional offices throughout the week.
MoveOn is among the more than 500 human and civil rights groups leading the charge to push Congress to hold ICE accountable in the wake of escalating violence resulting from ICE operations.
Earlier this month, MoveOn Civic Action joined Indivisible, Public Citizen, Movimiento Migrante DC, ACLU, Interfaith Alliance, FreeDC, and allied organizations to lead an “ICE Out For Good” rally and candlelight vigil demanding accountability and an end to continued funding for ICE’s unchecked violence, attended by 1,000 local advocates, faith leaders, and community members outside the U.S. Customs and Border Protection headquarters. Senators Chris Murphy, Chris Van Hollen, Alex Padilla, and Ed Markey, joined by Representative Maxwell Frost, addressed the crowd and called for congressional support of urgent proposals to rein in immigration enforcement practices that have fueled fear, trauma, and harm in communities across the country.
